PrEP, or HIV Pre-exposure Prophylaxis, is a preventative medicine available for people who aren’t living with HIV. PrEP is taken before having sex to block HIV from entering the body, and is almost 99% effective when taken properly. It is only for HIV-negative people and does not protect against other sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
Exeter Travel Clinic is partnering with the local Devon Sexual Health service to offer PrEP to people who would benefit from it. Those at higher risk of acquiring HIV include travellers to countries where HIV is more common and who:
- have sex without a condom
- have sex with new or casual partners
- engage in sex tourism
- have sex under the influence of drugs or alcohol
Our experienced staff can discuss PrEP with you, and refer you to your local Devon Sexual Health service to continue the conversation. Please be reassured that access to PrEP and STI testing in Devon is free and confidential.
More information on PrEP is available on the Devon Sexual Health website.
